Sunday 2s vs Ploughmans

Not a day to remember for Sunday 2s on a very frustrating pitch where no two bounces were the same. A very hungover Taylor goes out for the toss in his second game as captain and maintains his 100% record and chooses to Bowl first. First over things looked good with BK giving just 1 run big then an equally hungover Saunders steps up and the awkward pitch doesn’t work in his favour and boundaries were coming thick and fast. Despite a slower run up no doubt from his hangover Taylor put a respectable 3 runs in his first over that was only hindered by myself when I get down low to stop the ball but unable to flick to Bickford on the stumps to cause that wicket. Some will claim I lost my footing. Soham, Sayer and Peddie stepped up and with boundaries still happening the day was looking very painful. It took until the 20th over and 150 runs down for Peddie to take our first wicket causing the batsman to slice it in the air and Bickford making it look simple. After several overs of more boundaries in the 25th over we saw a moment of magic. Out of nowhere Soham changes up his technique to a spin (like father, like son) and on the first ball the ball is struck straight into BK’s hands in cover. And he only did it again in his next over with Sayer’s safe hands assisting. The final decent moment comes from newbie Alex Bigham to take a catch that was much harder than the one he dropped earlier to allow Sayer to have a wicket. The day was summed up by my bowling where the first two went to point without the need of a batsman. 349/5 not good. Bickford and Bigham went in to rescue some dignity but it started off badly with Alex trying to get a run with Jack yelling no and Alex unable to get back to save himself. In goes Mr Sayer to clear some boundaries for us. The awkward pitch then catches out Jack as he is bowled and then two top catches dismiss Sam Plimmer and Briggsy for ducks. What can go wrong as I go in next. Tasked with a simple instruction: keep Sayer on strike. Only for him to get bowled in the next over to a ball that wouldn’t bounce. In steps Soham and out I go to leaving a gap and getting myself bowled. BK steps in and him and Soham form a partnership that on another day would see us have a chance to which we started to get distracted by Jack’s top Dutch impressions. They both fall to two great catches and Ben Peddie is bowled after an extra bowl just after Briggsy gives a no ball. So it’s down to the hungover lot Taylor and Saunders. Other than Saunders blocking a fast ball with his arse there’s not anything else to say until Taylor was caught to end a long day. Awards: Man of the Match: BK for 1-25, a catch and 30 runs. Dick of the Day: Rob Taylor for being ridiculously hungover and choosing to bowl. Thanks for Coming: Alex Bigham for bowling 2 overs and not facing a strike after his run out. Champagne Moment: Soham’s wickets after changing to a spinner, although Bickford’s Dutch impression wasn’t far off. |
