After two defeats pressure was on to get the W against the local boozer - The Bricklayers Arms. After an impassioned plea from the opposing skipper it was decided that PCC would post a total, and then be charged with bowling the oppo out. Jay Tufnell and James Hannaprod got to work, and after 20 over both retired with unbeaten half centuries. Some good work by the rest of the order saw Putney set the publicans 200 to win, or 35 overs to survive for a losing draw. It soon became clear which outcome was more likely, as tight bowing from Putney set the tone. Excellent spells from Gus, Leon, Will, Saad and the Hoff ensured the win was never an option for the brickies, but resolute batting frustrated. Enter Connor, who bowled beautifully to snare three batsmen, and break the resistance. Sturdy batting, athletic fielding and accurate bowling ensured PCC emerged victorious. A word must go to Paul 'sheriff' Hogarth, for passing a fantastic milestone of 1000 runs for Putney, duly celebrated with a jug. Great performance, great win. |
