Who's who at Putney Cricket Club

Who do I talk to about nets?
To sign up for nets and for all the info, go here, then sign up in the forum.

How much is it to join the club, and who do I pay?
There is an annual subscription of £80 (£20 for under 18s or students), which must be paid by the end of May. In addition there is a match fee of £10 (or £5) which includes tea and beer whip.
You can pay either your captain, Mike Curtis or Ben Brook.

Who do I tell when I want a game?
To be eligible for selection, Gary Peters needs to know your availability by Monday for the following weekend. You can email him at geepee911@hotmail.co.uk or text or call him on 07904 238 111. Each Sunday, an automated email goes out and you can update your availibility via that.

What team will I play in and when will I find out?
New players will start in the Sunday team usually. Players may start off in the Saturday 2nd team, depending on availability and other factors.
The teamsheet usually goes out on Weds, though some weeks it will be Thurs or even Friday.

Harry Fernandez? WTF?
Awarded to the player who contributed the most unintentionally laughable moment of a game through positive endeavor.

Harry Fernandez was a lovely bloke with the biggest smile in the game, who turned up at the Sundays one year, with a coffin full of the latest bright white things. His passion for the game was undeniable, sadly his ability was a little shy of average.

The day is bright, the ground is in good shape and we're doing well in the field against a strong opposition bat. We're all on top of our game. The match is perfectly balanced and tension is high. A ball is spanked to the long boundary, Harry sets off. The ball disappears into the bushes, nettles and wooded debris beyond the boundary.

Yet, so spurred on is Harry, he continues his chase when most other fielder would have resigned themselves to defeat. Even then, Harry did not pull up at the boundary but literally threw himself headfirst onto the said undergrowth as if diving off the ten meter board at the Olympics, disappearing from view behind a large felled tree trunk.

There was a hushed silence around the ground as all eyes focussed on the now still bushes. The birds stopped chirping, the traffic on Queen's Ride stuttered to a halt. This could be serious.

After a moment, a movement was detected - then suddenly from behind the log up popped the biggest beaming smile ever seen at Putney, Harry was OK, a loud spontaneous cheer of relief and laughter erupted from the players, and the Harry Fernandez Moment was born.

We lost.
